Here’s what’s been going on in my head since Lent:
If I had to look back over the series we just did during Lent, I was most personally challenged by the week we talked about sloth. So, here on the other side of Lent, I’m simplifying a lot – rethinking ways of doing things, etc. Here are some changes:
- I’m eliminating television shows. 2 shows have already gotten the axe, and three more are close. I’ve found that the downside of having a DVR is that I record a lot of stuff, then feel obligated to watch it.
- I’m hiding more people on Facebook. I’m sorry if this offends you, but I just don’t need constant status updates from everyone I’ve ever known. If we’re friends in real life, we’ll talk.
- Likewise, I’m not updating my Facebook status or tweeting. I want to live in the moment and not feel like I have to come up with witty things to say or prove to people that my life is exciting. Most days it’s just not that exciting anyway, and I find myself distracted with “what should I update my status with” angst.
- I’ve taken Facebook and Google Reader out of my bookmarks toolbar, and when I finish looking at them in the morning, I logout. This means it takes more time to access these programs, and gives my brain time to ask “is this necessary, or is this sloth?” For the last week or so, I’ve looked at them two times a day, or less.
- This is important for blog readers: I’m unlinking my blog from Facebook and Twitter. So, this is the last time you’ll see my blog updated in my status update. From here on out, you’ll have to check it at the side or subscribe via RSS (I HIGHLY recommend Google Reader!)
- I’m not picking up my phone in the morning to look at emails until after I’ve showered and eaten breakfast.

Twitter Updates

I think this is all great… and I set up Google reader. Thanks.
Good stuff, Charlie. I personally like limiting shows. There are so many shows out there that I would like to get into, but there are more important things to do, like spend time with Shana and my girls. You might have to add a show- Top Chef Masters is back.
I really like the idea of logging out of facebook everytime I’m done… I’m just lazy enough that I’m not going to want to log back in next time, so that will really limit my usage. I’ll give it a try.
@Ryan – that’s exactly it for me, Ryan! I’m too lazy to log in, so I’m using my laziness against myself. I think it’s brilliant… using my sloth to combat my sloth!
@Josh – Top Chef Masters has now been added! (but I’ve gotten rid of several… and LOST is coming to an end – so the net result is less shows.)
