    I’ve been to one of these churches before. As part of my American Folklore Studies in college, we visited many of the fringe churches in the area. At the time I was pretty shocked at the contrast between the service activities and the very normal and average families that attended.

    The customs you grow up with rarely seem strange, bizarre, unhealthy, or ridiculous to you. I grew up with weekly celebrations of an execution of a man from 2000 years ago. A man whose bloody, hanged image we bowed and knelt before every week.
