Song of the Summer

Help us settle a family dispute.

There’s been a discussion in my family regarding the “song of the summer,” – that song that in future years will come to typify the summer of ’11.

Some of us say it’s Adele, “Rolling in the Deep.”

Others of us say it’s “Tonight Tonight” by Hot Chelle Rae.

Tonight Tonight. That’s the current “dance song” at our house!

  2. Having never heard “Tonight Tonight”, and having played “Rolling in the Deep” a lot, I have to side with Adele…

…and go listen to “Tonight Tonight”, apparently. :-)

  3. Zach says:

Out of those two, I would have to go with “Rolling in the Deep,” which I heard ad nauseum this summer. “Tonight Tonight” gets played a lot too, but seemingly not as much.

However, I would submit Bruno Mars’ “Lazy Song” as even MORE dominant this summer. I hate it, but when I think of Top 40 radio this summer, that’s the song that comes to mind, much like Katy Perry’s “California Girls” comes to mind every time I think of summer 2010:)

I really don’t like any of those 2011 songs, though…if I had to pick my song of the summer, it would definitely be, uh, “Forget” You by Cee Lo Green. Or Superbass by Nicki Minaj:)

I think Mungo Jerry’s “in the summertime” should be the song of every summer.

  5. Mandy K says:

I’ve never heard “Tonight, Tonight” :)

And I adore “Rolling in the Deep”…

  6. Shana says:

If you listen to NPR’s Planet Money they would say it’s Adele… and I would have to agree! By the way if you haven’t listened to that episode of planet money it was very interesting.

  7. Jeff Smith says:

I will go retro on you: “Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer”, by Nat King Cole.

  8. Eric says:

I vote for Pumped up Kicks, by Foster the People. If I have to pick one of your choices I pick Adele cause she has a great voice and I accidentally saw Hot Chelle Rae live last year and they weren’t good.

I can’t hear Rolling in the deep enough…so that’s my vote. Its been awhile since I have been hooked on a song like I am this one
